One of Taipei's oldest schools, reborn as a senior high.
Chengyuan Senior High traces its lineage to a study group founded in 1897 under the Japanese Government-General's civil affairs bureau, making it one of the oldest schools in Taipei — its name comes from Xunzi's line "積水成淵,蛟龍生焉" ("where waters gather into a deep pool, dragons are born"), and its badge uses the Kan (water) trigram from the Bagua. The school moved to its present Shuanglian site in 1952 as a junior high, added a senior-high division in 1955, then operated purely as a junior high from 1961 to 1996 after a provincial policy shifted its senior-high students to Cheng Kung Senior High. It was reorganized back into a senior high in 1996, and its comprehensive-high track was phased out in 2017, leaving it a standard senior high school today.

Beside Dadaocheng and the Confucius Temple.
Chengyuan sits near Dadaocheng and the Taipei Confucius Temple / Wenchang Temple area, tying the school's century-plus history to Datong District's identity as Taipei's oldest settled district and historic tea-trading quarter. Generations of students have studied within walking distance of the old street's Qing-era merchant houses and the incense of its temple courtyards.
