Checheng Elementary School was established on February 8, 1901, as Checheng Public School under preparation by Hamuro Choukyo, making it the only elementary school serving all of Checheng Township, with over 120 years of continuous history. The school currently has 33 classes and 652 students, plus two branch campuses — the Hot Spring branch (溫泉分校) and the Sheliao branch (射寮分校) — and an attached kindergarten. Checheng is the historic gateway to Kenting National Park and site of Fu'an Temple (福安宮, founded 1662) — one of Taiwan's most revered Earth God temples, famed for its towering incense furnace (nicknamed the “money-counting machine” by locals) and a pair of massive stone lions. The temple also preserves stone tablets referencing the 1867 Rover Incident, when General Liu Mingdeng helped mediate between the U.S. and Taiwanese indigenous communities.
