Checheng is the historic gateway to Kenting National Park and site of Fu'an Temple (福安宮, founded 1662) — one of Taiwan's most revered Earth God temples, famed for its towering incense furnace (nicknamed the “money-counting machine” by locals) and a pair of massive stone lions. The temple also preserves stone tablets referencing the 1867 Rover Incident, when General Liu Mingdeng helped mediate between the U.S. and Taiwanese indigenous communities.
