A newer national university built for southern and central Taiwan.
National Chung Cheng University (CCU) was founded on July 1, 1989, under its first president, Lin Ching-chiang, at a time when Taiwan's government sought to expand access to national higher education outside the traditional northern hubs. Its name — Chung Cheng — is the courtesy name of Chiang Kai-shek. Built on a large campus in Minsyong Township, CCU has grown into a comprehensive research university with seven colleges: Liberal Arts, Science, Social Sciences, Engineering, Management, Law, and Education. Alongside neighboring National Chiayi University's Minsyong campus, CCU has helped shape Minsyong into a genuine university town, with student housing, shops, and transit built up around the two campuses over more than three decades.
