From a branch campus to a national vocational school.
The school was founded in 1955 as a Caotun branch of the Taichung Provincial Commercial Vocational School, becoming an independent institution in 1959. In 1974, it added a machine-work department and took on its current name. The 1999 921 earthquake badly damaged the campus, and the school relocated to a newly built campus completed in January 2004. It became a national school in 2000.
學校創立於民國44年（1955年），最初為台中省立商業職業學校草屯分部，於民國48年（1959年）獨立設校。民國63年（1974年）增設機工科，並改為現用校名。1999年921大地震重創校舍，其後遷至新建校區，於民國93年（2004年）1月完工啟用。學校於民國89年（2000年）改隸國立。
