Hsu Kuang Senior High School was founded in August 1968 as Hsu Kuang Junior High School. Its campus was totally destroyed in the catastrophic 1999 "921" earthquake, and the school was rebuilt with funding from the Tzu Chi Foundation, reopening in 2002. In 2001, the school was upgraded to become Caotun's first senior/complete high school, and one of Nantou County's first "complete middle schools" spanning both junior and senior high levels.
旭光高中創立於民國57年（1968年）8月，最初名為旭光國中。校舍在1999年921大地震中全毀，其後獲慈濟基金會捐助重建，於2002年復校啟用。民國90年（2001年），學校升格為草屯鎮第一所高中／完全中學，也是南投縣最早成立的完全中學之一，橫跨國中與高中部。
