Over 120 years at the heart of Budai.
Budai Elementary School opened on October 4, 1902, as "Budaizui Public School," at the site of today's Budai Jiaying Temple, making it the oldest school in the Budai area with over 120 years of history. It has been renamed several times through Taiwan's changing eras — Budai Public School (1921), Budai East National School (1941), Tainan County Budai Township No. 1 National School (1946), Budai National School (1949–1950), and finally Budai National Elementary School (1968) — and moved to its current site in 1922. The school has published a 100th-anniversary yearbook and held celebrations marking its 122nd anniversary, and today runs class websites for all six grades plus kindergarten, alongside a strong indigenous-language and reading-focused curriculum and dedicated anti-drowning and disaster-prevention safety programs.

The founding school of a historic salt port.
As the founding school of the Budai area, established under Japanese rule when Budai was developing as a salt- and fishing-port town, Budai Elementary's century-plus history parallels Budai Harbor's own rise as a salt-shipping and fishing port with ferry ties to Penghu. See the Chiayi county page for more on the region.
