From a community hall to a pioneer in special education.
Binlang Elementary began in 1946 as a branch of Nanwang Elementary School, using the borrowed "Xiabinlang" (下賓朗) Puyuma community assembly hall as its original classroom space, before becoming fully independent in February 1947. Over the following decades the school took on a role well beyond ordinary elementary education: from 1971 to 1985 it ran a special "Benevolence Class" (仁愛班) for physically disabled children, and beginning in 1981 it hosted a countywide deaf-education program. It also absorbed, and later spun off, a Meinong branch campus between 1987 and 1993.
