A school moved by a river.

Binjiang Elementary School began in 1949 as a satellite classroom, "西松國民學校下塔悠分教室," becoming an independent school in 1953 as "下塔悠國民學校" and taking the name "濱江國民學校" in 1954. It was originally located in what was then Songshan District, at Binjiang Street.

The school was forced to relocate in 1991-92, when the Keelung River-straightening project ("基隆河截彎取直案") required demolition of its old campus, a move approved by the Executive Yuan. Its new campus — built in the Dazhi land-readjustment zone at 26,336 square meters, larger than the original 21,994-square-meter site — used green-building construction methods. Its former neighborhood is now shared with the newer Binjiang Experimental Junior High, both named for their riverside ("濱江") location.

A defining infrastructure event, felt directly.

🌊

Like Dajia Elementary, Binjiang Elementary's entire relocation history is a direct consequence of the 1991-92 Keelung River-straightening project — one of the defining infrastructure events that reshaped the Dazhi and Binjiang riverside portion of Zhongshan District. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
