Bengang Elementary was approved on September 7, 1962, as a branch of Yong'an Elementary School (永安國民小學笨港分校), and remains the only school in Bengang Village, sitting on the coastal Provincial Highway 15 (西濱公路) at the 56.5 km marker. It is a small school of about 66 students and 13 staff, most from local Hakka fishing families, and — unusually for such a small rural community — hosts the "Taoyuan Digital Planetarium" (桃園數位天文台) right on its campus.
笨港國小於1962年（民國51年）9月7日核准設立，最初為永安國民小學笨港分校，至今仍是笨港村唯一的學校，坐落於西濱公路56.5公里處。全校約66名學生、13位教職員，多數來自當地客家漁村家庭。難得的是，這所小型農村學校校內設有「桃園數位天文台」。
