Named for one of Chiayi's classical scenic sights.
Beiyuan Junior High School was established with Yang Qingming, then principal of Xikou Junior High, serving as preparatory director. Its first official principal, Chen Zong-ern, took office in August 1973. The school takes its name from “Northern Fragrance, Autumn Lotus” (北園秋蓮), one of the traditional “Eight Sights of Zhuoluo” (old Chiayi), tying it to the city's classical heritage. As of December 2023, the school served about 343 students with 40 teachers.
