Named for children polished like gems.
Baoshih Elementary traces its roots to 1942, when it opened as a branch of Xinpu's "Asahi" school during the Japanese colonial era. It became fully independent in 1946 under the name Shitoukeng National School (石頭坑國民學校), and was renamed Baoshih National School in 1950 — a name meaning "treasure stone" or "gem," chosen to symbolize children being polished, like raw stones, into gems through education. The school took its current name in 1968.
