Named for Taitung City's own old name.
Baosang Junior High opened in 1970 as a branch campus of Xinsheng Junior High School and became fully independent the following year, in 1971. Its name comes from "Baosang" (寶桑), a historic alternate name for the Taitung City area predating the city's current name. Alongside its general academic classes, the school offers dedicated art and physical education program tracks, giving students focused pathways in the visual arts and competitive sport.
