From a borrowed temple to a historic campus.
Ansi Elementary traces back to April 20, 1914, when classes began in a borrowed ancestral temple in Ansiliao village with just two staff and four male students. It was formally established as "Ansi Public School" in 1916, renamed "Houbi Township Ansi National School" in 1947, became "Tainan County Ansi Elementary School" in 1968 under nine-year compulsory education, and took its current name after the 2010 Tainan city-county merger. At its peak the school enrolled roughly 1,200 students across 24 classes — far more than today, reflecting the district's since-declined farming population.

The school's 1950s-built office and auditorium were designated a Tainan historical building in 2004; the auditorium still serves as the assembly hall, and the old office is now a heritage classroom and exhibition space.

A century tracing Houbi's rice-farming arc.
As one of Houbi's oldest schools, Ansi Elementary's century-plus history traces the arc of the district's rice-farming communities from the Japanese colonial era to today — from its 1914 founding in a borrowed temple with four students, through a peak enrollment of 1,200 that reflected a booming farm population, to the smaller, quieter campus it is now as that population has aged and moved away.
