The root school of Annan District.
Anshun Elementary was established on April 1, 1916, as "Anshun Public School" (安順公學校), taking its name from "Anshun Zhuang," the old administrative name for the area before it became Annan District. Its original campus stood at the southern end of Zongtou Village before relocating to its current site in December 1938. Over the decades it spun off Heshun, Haidong, and Chang'an Elementary Schools as branch and successor institutions, making it the root school of Annan District's entire public education system.

The institutional root of Annan's schools.
As the oldest and "mother" school of the district — founded in 1916 under the area's original name "Anshun" — this school's century-plus history is essentially the institutional backbone from which most of Annan's other elementary schools eventually grew.
