From a Gangshan branch to Alian's own junior high.
Alian Junior High School began in 1957 as a branch campus of Kaohsiung County's Gangshan Junior High School. It became an independent institution, Kaohsiung County Alian Junior High School, by 1958–59, and took its current name in 1968 alongside Taiwan's shift to nine-year compulsory education. In 1986, the school added a supplementary remedial program. Its name reflects Alian's layered linguistic history: the district name traces to the Siraya language, referencing the ancestral spirit Alizu (阿立祖), and was later reinterpreted in 1946 using the characters "阿蓮" (lotus) for their Buddhist Pure Land associations — a naming link shared with neighboring Mituo District.
