🍉 Yizhu Township

Yizhu Township lies in the southern part of Chiayi County, a flat, sun-drenched agricultural plain close to the border with Tainan City. Life here follows the quiet rhythms of the farming calendar — spring peanut planting, summer watermelon harvest, autumn sweet potato cultivation, and winter vegetable growing. The township's proximity to the coast and its sandy loam soil create ideal conditions for growing sweet, crisp watermelons that are sold across southern Taiwan.

Peanuts (花生) are the other signature crop of Yizhu. The township's sandy soil provides exactly the loose, well-drained medium that peanuts need to develop their full flavor. Local cooperative farms process peanuts into peanut oil, peanut butter, and the distinctive peanut brittle candy (花生糖) that is a traditional Taiwanese snack. Yizhu's rural pace and agricultural authenticity make it a living example of Taiwan's deep farming heritage.

花生是義竹的另一項代表作物。本鄉沙質土壤提供了花生生長所需的疏鬆、排水良好的土質，使其風味更加飽滿。在地合作農場將花生加工成花生油、花生醬與傳統台灣零食花生糖。義竹的農村步調與農業純樸，是台灣深厚農耕傳統的活生生見證。
