Xingang Township is one of the most spiritually significant communities in all of Taiwan. At its center stands Fengtian Temple (奉天宮), one of the island's most revered Mazu temples, founded in 1700 during the Qing Dynasty. The temple draws over three million pilgrims per year and plays host to the legendary nine-day Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage, during which tens of thousands of followers escort the Mazu deity on a 300-kilometer procession across central and southern Taiwan.
Beyond its religious fame, Xingang is celebrated for its traditional crafts. The Xingang Foundation for Culture and Education has championed local artisans in bamboo weaving, folk art, and handmade sausage production. The township's bamboo-smoked sausages and peanut products are beloved snacks across the island. Xingang is a living example of how deep-rooted faith, community pride, and artisan tradition can sustain a rural township in the modern era.

Fengtian Temple
奉天宮
Founded in 1700, Fengtian Temple is one of Taiwan's most important Mazu temples. Its ornate architecture features dragon-wrapped pillars, a gilded altar, and intricate stone carvings by master craftsmen. The temple courtyard fills with worshippers year-round, burning incense and receiving blessing from the Sea Goddess.
奉天宮建於 1700 年，是台灣最重要的媽祖廟之一。廟內裝飾有龍柱、金碧輝煌的神龕與精雕細琢的石刻。廟埕全年香客絡繹不絕，信眾燃香膜拜，向海神媽祖祈求庇佑。
Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage
大甲媽祖進香
The annual Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is one of the world's largest religious events, with over 200,000 participants walking alongside a palanquin carrying the Mazu statue from Dajia (Taichung) to Xingang and back — a 300 km journey over nine days and eight nights.
大甲媽祖遶境進香是全球規模最大的宗教活動之一，逾 20 萬信眾隨行，護送媽祖神轎從台中大甲徒步前往新港再返回，全程約 300 公里，歷時九天八夜。

Established in 1987, the Xingang Foundation has revitalized local craft traditions including bamboo weaving, papier-mâché lantern making, and embroidery. The Foundation also runs community schools, reading programs, and public art installations that have made Xingang a model of rural cultural renewal.
