Meishan Township climbs from the Chiayi plains into the misty foothills of the Central Mountain Range, spanning elevations from 100 to over 1,400 meters. The township's mountain scenery is spectacular. Mountain Road 18 — a winding highway connecting Meishan to the Alishan area — is considered one of Taiwan's most scenic drives, with hairpin turns overlooking valleys of tea, bamboo, and forest.

County Road 18 winds from the foothills at Zhuqi through Meishan's tea villages before climbing toward Alishan. Meishan Old Street
梅山老街
Meishan's historic market street retains traditional shop-house architecture from the Japanese colonial period. Local vendors sell handmade mochi (麻糬), bamboo shoots, pickled plums, and artisan teas. The street is particularly lively during temple festivals and harvest season.
